This summer we wanted to do things a little different for Draven. Instead of sleeping in till noon each day and playing video games we wanted him to work. We wanted Draven to come out of his shell a little bit, find something he enjoys and be proud of his hard work. I decided to start looking for places for him to volunteer. He volunteered once at March of Dimes with Aunt Gum, but that was too easy. He didn't have to talk to anyone and he kept his headphones on the whole time. Of course, he loved it and wants to do that again and I will let him.
I came across a place on line that I used to drive by years ago. It is the Coffee Creek Riding Center. Keep in mind, Draven doesn't have any experience with horses, but he has lots of experience with kids. CCR offers free therapeutic horse back riding for children with disabilities. Draven is in charge of cheering and encouraging the kids while he teaches them games they play on the horses. He has met a lot of great teens that our volunteering too. Each time I pick him up you can tell he loves it! Of course he doesn't love waking up at 7am.
