Here's a little info for week 16!
Your baby now weighs in at a whopping three to five ounces, and he's four to five inches in length. The bones that are now in place in his ears means he can probably hear your voice as you talk to your partner and pals and sing in the car. While he’s getting used to your voice, the tiny muscles in his body, especially the ones in his back, are gaining strength, so he can straighten out a little more. And thanks to his developing facial muscles, your baby is capable of making a few expressive frowns and squints, even at this early stage. (Don’t worry, those frowns have nothing to do with the sound of your voice!) And his eyes are finally working, making small side-to-side movements and perceiving light (although the eyelids are still sealed). Peekaboo!
Yesterday I went to the doctor for a checkup. It was the first time that Chris has been able to go with me. I was very excited about the appointment until Chris got a phone call. It was OKCPD (I think) calling to tell him that they found his friend dead in his apartment. Chris was the only one they could get a hold of. He was the emergency contact listed for the apartment complex. So the day that I hoped would be full of excitement was full of questions, anxiety, and sadness. Chris did tell me he liked the doctor. This was Lillie's first time meeting Dr. H too. She had seen Dr. M (the perinatal doctor) but not my regular ob. Lillie had a lot of questions for Dr. H. She asked if her baby was getting big too. Dr. H took the time to pay attention to Lillie and her "pregnancy" questions. Both Lillie and Chris got to hear Lil' Dude's heartbeat. For whatever reason, this doctor's appointment got me excited about being pregnant. Don't know what triggered it. Here are the appointment details for those of you that care....
Weight gain total: 7lbs! I thought this was high, but doc says it is fine and she would tell me if I was gaining too much. I am still in the average range. I want to slow done the weight gain. I don't plan to eat less, just better choices and more exercise. I forgot to get my prenatal yoga doctor's release signed so I am going to fax that in this week. Also, since I am feeling better, I am going to start back up at the Y.
Blood pressure: It was 122/66. This is my biggest fear. My blood pressure sky rocketed out of nowhere with Lillie. At one point it was as high as 133/108 (at least that is the highest I ever typed in my blog). When it gets that high (for me at least) I swelled up and got blinding headaches. Not to mention what it was doing to my Lil' Hen.
Baby's Heart rate: She found Lil' Dude's heart beat right away and then he "ran" away. It took her a few more minutes to find it again. He is a busy Lil' guy. It was first in the 150's then when he settled down it was around 145.
That's about it for now. I am getting excited to see if Lil' Dude is really a dude. My ultrasound is on the 27th. I can't freakin' wait!
